Videoart.net and Tribeca Cinemas team up for Video Art & Experimental film festival Videoart.net, the leading international network for video art and experimental film, is thrilled to present its first annual Video Art and Experimental Film Festival at Tribeca Cinemas on May 22nd.
New York, NY, May 22, 2010: The 2010 Video Art and Experimental Film Festival promises to be a defining moment in the way we perceive video art, taking video art out of its traditional home in galleries and museums and bringing it to a wider audience at Tribeca Cinemas. This one-day event will feature a two-hour screening and a 45 min. panel discussion followed by a reception with the artists. The screening will include a wide spectrum of international contemporary video art and experimental films including micro-shorts, documentaries, experimental and narrative shorts from countries such as India, Israel, England, Brazil, France, Spain, Italy, Sweden and the US.
Panel participants include, Ross Harley, Professor and Head of the School of Media Arts, College of Fine Arts at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Ed Bowes, an SVA professor and winner of the Guggenheim Fellowship 2010, and Blake Whitman, Director of Community and Product at Vimeo. The discussion will be moderated by Bonnie Friel, a video and performance artist and instructor of media theory and production at Temple University. The panel discussion will explore issues such as the definition of the video art and experimental film genre in the wake of the new era of the digital and internet revolution and the complex relationship between online communities dedicated to video art and experimental film versus offline spaces such as galleries, museums and film festivals.Videoart.net Artistic Director Dan Fine says, “The festival aspires to shed new light on the video art genre and will become an important step to democratize the relationship between artists, curators, institutions, and the public worldwide.” For more information, please visit www.videoart.net.
